Wrong Turn 5 (2012)

The flesh eating hillbilly’s are back! Though I’m not sure why Wrong Turn spawned so many sequels when it did pretty modest at the box office ($28M overall). It looks like fans can’t get enough and now here we are, 9 years and 4 follow ups later and we have Wrong Turn 5, directed by Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 4) and features Doug Bradley (Hellraiser). A group of college kids are on their way to the West Virginia ‘Mountain Man Festival’, when the fun is interrupted by the usual gang of hungry rednecks, but this time there’s a new addition, Maynard, played by Bradley who serves as the ringleader of the group.

Now when watching a sequel, you can only expect so much because they tend to get worse as they continue to be cranked out. But who knows, maybe you end up with an ‘ok’ movie that’s still pretty entertaining. Throw in some corny special effects and suddenly the film becomes a little bearable. To me, that’s all this film was, one that you watch without very high expectations and getting a few colorful killing scenes here and there. Like ripping out a victims organs and feeding it to them. Good, clean, wholesome family entertainment. Then again low budget films such as these are made with the intent of being solely based on the entertainment value.

But let’s break it down: Would I recommend it? If you know what to expect than yes. But if you’re going in thinking it’s the blockbuster of the year (it does happen) then you’ll be walking away pissed off. Like all of the other Wrong Turn sequels before it this one doesn’t lack on a good dose of gore filled fun!

Gore: 4 out of 5

Entertainment Value: 2 1/2 out of 5

Story: 1 out of 5

Overall: 2 out of 5
