Rec. 3: Genesis (2012)

When you look at the cover of Paco Plaza’s Rec. 3: Genesis, you can’t help but feel like you’re about to witness a gore filled mess. While you do get your fix, there could have been, as always, more blood! Following the same root story of the previous two movies, Rec. 3 brings back Spain’s favorite zombies. This time however they are crashing a wedding, and not in the traditional sense. Instead of a memorable/romantic evening, newly weds Clara (Leticia Dolera) and Koldo (Diego Martin) must now fight for their lives as they attempt to escape their wedding from hell.

What I liked about this film is that we see a break away from the shaky camera work and get a lot more clean shots this time around. Which is a nice change considering the overkill of first person camera shots we see these days. And unlike most sequels, this one can stand on its own. Everything is solid. I hope that if more additions are made that they don’t go downhill in quality.

Pros: Little to no CG. Good dose of blood and guts. Diverse camerawork. Cute foreign chick with a chainsaw.

Cons: Confusing concepts that don’t go in line with the previous films.

Gore: 3 out of 5

Entertainment Value: 2 1/2 out of 5

Story: 2 out of 5

Overall: 2 1/2 out of 5

  1. Yeah, this one confused me, too… like brain-hurtingly confused.
